For decades, Thomas Built Buses has been the premier builder of type C conventional buses in the United States .  In 2000, a decision was made to create a new conventional style bus that would redefine the Type C category.  A completely new design that would offer better durability, reliability, safety and styling that no other Type C bus could match. With clear objectives in hand, a group of talented stylists, engineers and product planners set out to define the future of bus transportation by creating an all-new innovative product, in an ultra-modern manufacturing facility.  After four years of market research, design, testing and fabrication, the Thomas Saf-T-Liner C2 is a reality. Every body line, every curve, every element of the C2 was designed and engineered to improve durability, reliability, safety and life cycle cost — exactly as it was supposed to do.   • Sloped hood with a large curved and bonded windshield for improved visibility.
  • Saf-T-Bond Structural Adhesive bonding with fewer rivets for increased strength and improved joint seal.
  • Low, automotive-style instrument panel/dash with non-reflective materials to increase visibility and reduce eye strain.
  • Ergonomically designed interior for enhanced driver performance.
  • Proven chassis design and durability for lower life cycle and maintenance costs.
  • 55-degree steering angle/wheel cut, softer springs/rear air suspension and lower ride height for improved ride control and exceptional maneuverability.
  • Fully integrated, multiplexed wiring network for improved reliability and easier troubleshooting
  • Significantly exceeds Federal joint strength requirements (FMVSS 221)

  • Chassis produced in Gaffney, SC at Freightliner Custom Chassis Corp.
  • Body produced in High Point, NC at Thomas Built Buses.
  • 275,000 square feet of production space situated on a 90-acre site.
  • An electronically-controlled conveyor system moves the buses through assembly.

Quality paint coatings are applied by robotic equipment in a state-of-the-art facility that features downdraft ventilation and environmentally-sensitive air filtration.
